Review of the Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric Gooseneck Kettle

One of the more interesting things about the electric kettle market today is that customers seem to have a vast range of different brands to choose from. The moment they think they have found the best electric kettle available, they can see that they missed one that had even more features. No one wants that to happen.

Many of us simply want an electric kettle which allows us select the temperature of our choice and hold that temperature for a reasonable length of time. Which is necessary today because many of the different coffee beans and blends available require different brewing temperatures to extract the flavors out of them. This is also the case with modern tea blends. One such well-thought and refined product that suits this need is the Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric Kettle. The controls are simple and the functionality is also better than expected.

In-Depth Review of the Bonavita Variable Temperature Electric Gooseneck Kettle

It has variable controls

This metallic gooseneck kettle reminds of an old grandpa kettle, except it’s one with modern features. Its has 1000 watts of power, which results in a lower heating time. It also has six buttons on its base and a LED display. It buttons are very responsive and you only need a gentle click to press them. Once you’ve read the instructions, it’s as easy to use as flipping a switch.

It only requires a handful of button presses to input the target temperature. It displays the real-time temperature and also holds that same temperature about 60 minutes.

This kettle has a count-up timer that makes it easy to keep track of the brewing process. With the accuracy of temperature and the quality of its gooseneck spout, you can heat water up to the temperature you desire and then make a perfect cup of tea or coffee with it. The gooseneck also allows you to pour the water in a very controlled manner.

The “boil” temperature is said to be about 205 degrees F. You also have the option of using Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. Switching between Fahrenheit and Celsius is quite simple too, you just press one button. One thing to keep in mind is that the kettle does not whistle, and you will not see steam escaping from the spout at the specified temperatures.

The cord keeper in the base is handy and built in such a way that you can adjust how much wire extends out of the base. The handle is comfortable, and the lid is tight enough to close but still not difficult to open. The one-liter capacity is more than sufficient to prepare 2 to 4 cups of water. The BonaVita has a very secure lid that is safer to use than some other models of kettles and is virtually hands-free. The kettle also comes with an excellent manual that is easy to understand.

With a simple touch of the “+” button, the timer starts showing the minutes & seconds for the next 7 minutes. This timer also helps you set your target temperature to what you need. Press one button when the kettle is off the base, and the timer starts. It stops when you replace the kettle and resets to zero to be started again when picked up again.

It has the right thickness and curve and is designed so that you can primarily use your thumb and pointer finger with it, which just so happen to be your strongest fingers. The plastic between the grip of the handle and the side of the kettle should prevent accidental burns. Recall stored temperature settings for various beverages is quite simple, though you might want to keep a notepad around with what beverage is brewed at what temperature as it just displays the temperatures.

Holding temperature for an hour is simple and can be re-selected after a pour for the remaining water in the kettle.

Conclusion/Should You Buy This?

With this kettle, you can set your desired temperature for different boils, measure the time required and set your programs accordingly.  In my opinion, I think that makes this kettle a worthy investment, although it is priced a little higher than I would have liked.
