Most of us want to have things which are worth every single penny we’ve invested in them. Electric kettles are no exception to this. Given the fact there are hundreds of manufacturer’s making electric kettles, it can take a while to skim the lot and pick the one that suits your needs and doesn’t pinch your pocket.

Well, I’ve reviewed quite a few of such kettles on this very site. In today’s post, I’ll discuss one of the much-talked about cordless electric kettles by Breville – the Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless 1.7 Liter Stainless Steel Electric Kettle. Together, we’ll figure out whether this could be a wise investment for you.

In-Depth Review of the Breville SK500XL Ikon Cordless 1.7 Liter Stainless Steel Kettle

The Breville kettle has an elegant design and on a first look, seems a very convenient home appliance. The kettle can be rotated on its cordless base, which makes it easier to put it back on the base than some other models. It also has a transparent wall segment to measure water level. It has a blue backlight that goes on and lights this “window” when the kettle is switched on. This indicator does the dual job of attracting attention and at the same time showing the water level.

The wide lid is easy to open, and this helps you add water without dripping, unlike with some other products where the handle partly covers the top, making it hard to open and add water.
The heating spiral is not inside the boiling case but rather at the base of it, and this makes the design more reliable and safe. The cord minder is on the base bottom, and this helps to pull and push the cable back as you need it to. The removable kettle can also be turned to any point on the base as the kettle doesn’t have a fixed position. Push a button and the top opens up automatically. There is a glass center insert on top so you can see the water level also from the top. The domed top also helps preventing from dripping water.

The kettle stops heating once the water comes to the boiling point. The beep sound alerts you as well. Its beautiful design and broad lid make it very easy to clean.

Its thick base allows you to wrap the cord around the unit. This unit boils quickly in about 4 minutes for a full 1.5 L, making it one of the effective products available,  even when compared to super-expensive models.

The outlet is easy to pull due to the hollow center design. It also comes with a totally insulated and comfortable handle that has a nice curve to it.

In fact, one can choose to fill the water from the spout of the kettle as the spout is nicely sized for doing just that. The water gauge is big, well marked, very nicely lit and easy to read.

The body of the kettle is strong, making the kettle more durable. In fact, reading other users’ reviews, I found that that many of them continue to use the product even after 6-8 years after they had purchased it.

No plastic inside and outside, therefore there are no worries of your coffee or tea tasting like plastic.
